Fabian Martinez-Reyes, 20, of Port Jefferson, was arrested Wednesday, Feb. 26, by Albany Police and members of the US Marshals Task Force, the agency said.

It came months after emergency crews in Albany were called about a stabbing near Washington Avenue and Quail Street, one block from the UAlbany campus, at around 3:40 a.m. on June 3, 2024.

A 25-year-old man flagged paramedics down after suffering a stab wound to his back, Albany Police said. As medics were treating the man, another individual informed them that a second victim had been stabbed roughly a block away, near Washington and Lake avenues, and was unconscious.

Officers found the second victim, 24-year-old Abel Vasques-Bautista, suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital and was pronounced dead, as Daily Voice reported.

The 25-year-old victim was treated at the same hospital and was listed in stable condition.

Weeks later, on June 20, homicide detectives arrested Marco Reyes-Lopez, age 24, and Javier Martinez-Reyes, age 27, on suspicion of second-degree murder and gang assault. Fabian Martinez-Reyes now faces the same charges as he sits in the Rensselaer County jail.

“The Albany Police Department extends its gratitude to the United States Marshals Service for their partnership and support,” the agency said on Facebook.
